Frevo is a contemporary restaurant tucked away in an art gallery in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, where chef Franco Sampogna offers a six-course tasting menu that evolves along with the seasons and the availability of local produce, seafood, and meats. Just over a year old, this unique experience has been awarded its first Michelin star.

Chef Franco Sampogna is an immigrant who came to France from Brazil, and he is now in New York. Together with his business partner Bernardo Silva, he faced many challenges in coming to New York, so the achievement is a recognition of his commitment, motivation and passion. The chef claims that “coming to New York and achieving this level of recognition in our first restaurant as co-owners is a dream come true for me and my business partner. We wanted to create something personal, an elegant feeling, combining exquisite cuisine with a casual atmosphere. We wanted to reinforce the idea that a restaurant with a tasting menu has no need to be ostentatious, as well as fine dining is alive and stimulating, if not invigorating. Of course, none of this would have been possible without our Chef de cuisine Pierre Magnolini, our sommelier Quentin Vauleon and pastry chef Carla di Virgilio.”

Frevo offers a unique dining experience with a focus on engaging interaction with the customer. The intimate counter in the restaurant allows customers to have direct contact with the chefs while serving their creations. Sommelier Quentin Vauleon, responsible for the wine list selection, is also present in the open kitchen and is always willing to recommend the best pairing or bottle of wine for the customers’ meals.

The area caters to all the senses. Featuring a rotating art exhibition in the gallery that expands throughout the restaurant, a constantly evolving music playlist that unfolds in sync with the six course menu, it is the perfect environment for a tailored experience in every aspect. A commitment to sustainable practices and local producers is also a guiding pillar of this entrepreneurship’s philosophy. Ranging from the artisanal unrefined salt from Amagansett Sea Salt in Long Island to the delicious vegetables from Norwich Meadows Farm in Norwich, or HOG Farm in Brookhaven, everything is carefully thought out from its origin. With over 95% of the wine labels on their certified organic menu, Frevo is committed to delighting the taste buds while being concerned with sustainability and quality.
