The search for connection with nature
With the events of the recent years, we have noticed a change in people’s habits and routines life’s and, with that, the emergence of a new scenario in the area of architecture: the direct influence of the integration of indoor environments with “nature” in the psychological. We know that human sensations are defined by the senses and biophilic designs helps to stimulate them by enhancing the relationship between human beings and nature in built environments. Therefore, when aligned with this concept, the architect’s work can influence mood and consequently generate well-being for users through architecture and its elements. For this to happen, a thorough study of the environments is necessary, promoting cozy and functional spaces that integrate with the outside world. From studies carried out by the office, it is possible to define which elements can be brought into the project, such as natural light, the relationship with the external landscape or the use of natural materials, thus increasing this connectivity of human with nature. Currently, the office focuses on large and fluid spaces that encompass biophilia in a natural way. We have as an example the three projects highlighted in this edition: The Plaza Premium Lounge, located at Guarulhos Airport; The apartment at Casa Brasileira, in São Paulo; and the Espaço de Oração do Palácio, located in the gardens of Palácio dos Bandeirantes. In the Lounge, we took advantage of the view that occurs through large panes of glass, positioning seating areas with a view of the runway area and creating fluid paths divided by wooden slats that sinuously integrate the spaces in addition to filtering natural light, awakening different sensations. Highlighting the Brazilian touch, we designed a rug for this project that represents the wings of macaws, bringing a bit of our fauna into space.
As for Casa Brasileira, the same concept was used in the environments, through sliding glass doors, exploring the view of the city. The use of wood, stone and leather bring warmth to the environment. When it came to the Espaço de Oração, the objective of the office was to create a “shelter in the woods”. Large glass panels, strategically positioned, provide visual permeability, framing the existing landscape. Whether in residential, corporate, institutional, commercial or even hospital spaces, we can take full advantage of the benefits of the relationship with nature, landscape and external elements.
